For those unfamiliar with the lore, Dunk refers to Ser Duncan the Tall, one of the most famous Knights of the Kingsguard, and Egg who was Aegon V Targaryen, Duncan's squire. In terms of the historical timeline, it takes place not long after the events of House of the Dragon but over a century before Game of Thrones. Martin further clarified that the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will dive into "the tale of how Dunk and Egg first met during a tournament at Ashford Meadow". He previously wrote the fourth episode of House of the Dragon titled "King of the Narrow Sea", which saw Prince Daemon Targaryen return victorious from the War of the Stepstones and take Rhaenrya down into Flea Bottom to celebrate. Martin, who will be co-executive producer alongside Condal on the project, also revealed that Ira Parker, who is a writer on Condal's staff, has since completed the pilot episode of The Hedge Knight. The show is set to be helmed by familiar face Ryan Condal, who was the main showrunner on House of the Dragon's first season. Subsequent seasons will reportedly dive into the two other stories in the novella, titled The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight.
